Sewing and Leatherworking Ikea Room Makeover

Prior to this project over a week off, I had been cutting fabric, tracing patterns, and doing all of my leather projects in my living room. I have a folding cutting table that could be shoved in a corner when not in use, but it created many problems. It left the living room cluttered and the floor had fabric scraps and thread etc. I also had to constantly put everything away and pull it back out again when I needed to film or make anything. Also my sewing room and place for all the craft storage was super cluttered because I didn’t have enough room or storage space.

I finally decided to convert an unused basement room into another crafting area so that I could be more organized and keep the house less full of all of my stuff (I take up a good amount between the crafting and all of my music stuff). I also really wanted a dedicated space for the leather tools and leather itself so that nothing was lost or damaged.

Ikea finally had some Kallax units in stock so I went with partner to get all the things! I grabbed whatever I thought might be good for the room, but then ended up needing to go back to get more pegboard accessories and drona boxes for the cubes. This is what I got from Ikea: 2x4 Kallax units in white, Drona cube boxes in blue, Dignitet Curtain Wires, Lidkullen sit stand stool, Skadis pegboards and accessories, Forsynt Curtain Wires (white less strong ones), Moppe mini storage chest, Susig Cork Desk Pad, NÄVLINGE LED Clamp Light, and the MÖJLIGHET Tablet and Headphone Stand. I’m most thrilled with the curtain wires for hanging up my leather and for hanging filming backgrounds. I love the Kallax though because I can fit so much fabric and supplies in there.

As far as the non-ikea items go, the craft table I have is really convenient. It folds down and can be pushed against the wall which gives me room to film. I can also choose to only put one half up to conserve space if it’s not needed. It is very sturdy and well made and serves me very well. In that room size, a permanent non-folding table wouldn’t work very well.

Overall it’s really nice to have both spaces to work and enough storage finally!
